Chelsea and Jared are very good friends of mine. We met when we were all homeless in Hollywood. We lived in the same cheap, awful motels. We ate the same scarce food. And we all got out, moved into real homes and started families. And it is hard to express what an incredible success “normal (and still poor)” is unless you’ve made that journey yourself. It is a life that is self-perpetuating, and when you are on the very bottom – on the street without enough money to even renew your ID, not qualifying for any kind of social support. that’s right Republicans – when you’re actually on-the-street homeless? You often DO NOT QUALIFY FOR GOVERNMENT AID. No food stamps, no welfare, nothing. You also cannot “get a job” when you have no address. Especially when you also can’t afford clean, professional clothing. Or soap to wash with. You are on your own, except for each other.
Due to some technical difficulties on the Tosh.0 blog, people are having trouble seeing my audition. I think it’s because when I log in, it says that the video is still awaiting moderation. In any event, you can find it here and I hope you’ll still go over and try to give it a thumbs up! In the meantime, I’ve uploaded a copy to YouTube. And I’ve checked several times and THAT bitch is working.
Reviewing a documentary is really different from reviewing a film. I can’t take you through it point by point, and I can’t sum up the story. Especially the kind of documentary that explores some weird niche of society. And I am a total junkie for that kind of doc. Professional Scrabble tournament? I’m in. The personal drama of LARPers? Absolutely. World record high score for Donkey Kong? Oh, it’s ON.
Miss Ella (the daughter of some very close friends) got painted green yesterday and was in absolute ecstasy. Her birthday was earlier this month, and I gave her my last Fiona dress, altered to fit her, and a child-sized Fiona wig, complete with ears and the promise of last night’s makeover. She was a stunner.
Well, here we are. The Chief Inquisitor, as I called her in this post, left me a comment. And posted a link to my blog on her blog. Just describing this chain of fuckery makes me want to put my head right through my keyboard. But wait, in case you thought we were beyond passing notes in gym class: the link was forwarded to her by a “former high school friend” of mine. Which is…weird. I’m not friends with that many people from high school. I’ll admit that I’m curious, although I’m not particularly angry about it. Though whoever you are? You can say it to my face. Really. You don’t need to be a creeper.
This blog isn’t my first writing exercise by far. Aside from the ill-fated website I ran, I have library of fanfiction that ranges from “pretty good, actually” to “terrifying gay hobbit porn” and circles back around to “huh. I guess I don’t get fanfiction.”
People often ask about the dead bird on our wall. It’s a little brown sparrow, perched on driftwood, his head cocked. But there’s more in the shadowbox, and that’s when the explanation gets a little…complicated.
When I was working as The Princess, I was right across the street from Jimmy Kimmel Live. I went to see a few shows, which was neat, and went through a few autograph lines behind the building.
I’m finally reading the book that was written about me. Well, me and Creepy Tranny Cat (I am so keeping that nickname since it got such a great response. CTC. Has a ring to it.) I’m not quite bold enough to post a link or name names, so forgive the lack of specificity. Short version: back during The Crazy, CTC and I completely ruined a planned convention (and a couple other events). I was young and inexperienced, he was that plus a pathological liar who just assumed things would work out. Also: crazy. Crazy didn’t help.
Yesterday I posted a link to this essay by James Croft on my Facebook. It was discussing the violent threats and hate-filled rants that have showed up on Fox News. In a nutshell, American Atheists, Inc. opposes the inclusion of the “9/11 cross” in the official, government-funded memorial. Fox news reported on this and the response was vicious.
